I'm recovering from a nasty bout of a sinus infection. Since I don't have any relevant post ideas swimming through my clogged up head right now, I'm going with an easy Q&A for today's post.
Questions of the day: What are you reading and are you reading for fun or research?
I'm reading a little of everything. I'm skimming through a few writing books and excerpts from what's currently selling to avoid getting to my to-be-read pile. Why am I avoiding reading these books that I so excitedly want to read? Simple answer really: I'm committed to finishing up my current set of edits on my WIP before I start devouring whole new books. There's not enough time in the day. Can I get an amen?

Amen! I can't read at all when I'm writing. Not even in a different genre. Although I would like to go through the new writing book I have HOOKED by Les Egerton, I can't, like you, seem to find the time! Ugh!
I am reading my beta's stuff! But it's fun. So it's a little work and leisure at the same time.
I just finished my research reading for my new WIP--two books and on-line research. Probably the most research I've ever done for a novel.
I am also reading a grouping of Christian fiction novellas that fun. Almost finished with the first one! And I am reading Part Two of a critique partner's women's fiction manuscript. Good stuff!
Amen! There is never enough time in the day. Never. I'm just finished Perfect Chemistry and really liked it. I think I'm going to finish Marcelo in the Real World next. Or maybe I'll start Rules of Attraction.
What I read is both for fun and for research purposes. Yes, I'm that shallow. *wink*
I'm reading Jellicoe Road for fun.
Currently reading:
"Sputnik Sweetheart" by Haruki Murakami
Bullfinch's "Mythology"
Perinnes's "Story & Structure (10th ed.)
A bunch of research articles about Tycho Brahe, astronomy, astrology and some stuff about cartography and weather as well. All reading is for fun and profit both.
Hi Crimey. Not reading anything at the moment. Besides blogs. I've got on ms on submission and the other is cooling off until i'm ready to edit. I probalby won't start attacking my booklist until school lets out! Happy friday!
Amen! Right now I have just begun reading "The Lovely Bones". I realize that I am way behind on this, but I have just recently begin reading again after spending so much time editing my novel and seeing it published.
I finished Patricia Cornwell's latest and then moved on to Pat Conroy's latest; that's how far behind I've been.
Feel better!
I just finished the Book Theif and it was amazing. If you haven't had a chance you should pick it up!
Reading Charles DeLint for a writing project that may or may not materialize.
Reading McCammon and King and McCarthy, though I need to stop reading McCarthy. He's mucking up my groove with his style.
Also doing a ton of research for my novel.

Amen! At this moment, I'm reading A JD Robb because I'm working on my 100 Books in 2010 challenge. But yesterday I finished reading (and loving) an unpublished book by a writer friend. Whatever I'm reading, I'm always learning - either by absorbing what works, or by taking not of what doesn't.
I'm reading Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Dreams and my friend (and fellow Pen Woman) Ethel Born's From Horse 'n Buggy to High Tech: Carrying the Mail in Rural Virginia (a history of the Rural Letter Carrier's Association) and Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Vol II, which has my story "Rat-Killing" in it.
And I'm re-reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn on my iPod and a bunch of blogs on the computer.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
Am reading Afraid by Jack Kilborn so I can learn more about horror.
Also read books that are totally unrelated to fiction, such as Perfumes, The Guide about the definitive guide to the world of perfume. The authors write beautifully [& acerbically at times] so it inspires me.
So true! I try to reserve the last half hour or so of the day for reading in bed, but so often I end up stumbling wearily to bed a good hour after I intended, and the book never gets picked up. I just finished Hooked, though, and it was awesome!
I hope you're feeling better now!
I agree. I love reading in my genre while writing, but sometimes, there just isn't enough hours in a day to fully read and enjoy all the books I'm excited about.
Amen! Testify up in here!
Never enough time.
Oh, and I hope you feel better.
